How do I Port Tracking Lines Out of The DentalMarketing.com Dashboard?
If you are canceling services with DentalMarketing.com, you can retain your call tracking phone numbers. All call tracking lines are hosted in Twilio, and we can port ownership of those numbers to your own Twilio account.
This SOP outlines:

- What information you must provide
- How DentalMarketing.com completes the port

Step 1 — Create a Twilio Account
- Go to https://www.twilio.com
- Click Sign Up
- Create your account using your business email
- Verify your phone number and email
- Add a payment method (credit card required by Twilio)
Once complete, your account will have:
- Account SID
- Auth Token
- Billing enabled
- Ability to receive transferred numbers
Step 2 — Send This Information to DentalMarketing.com

Step 3 — Internal Processing by DentalMarketing.com
Once the client sends the above email:
- Customer Success (CS) copies the client reply
- CS posts the request into the #porting Slack channel
- Include the following in the Slack post:
- Practice Name
- Twilio Account SID
- Twilio Email
- Numbers to Transfer
- Requested Transfer Date
- Forwarding Number (if provided)
- Tag the Tech team for processing
- Tech team initiates the transfer inside Twilio
- Numbers are moved to client account
- CS confirms completion with client
Timeline
Typical transfer time:
- Same day to 24 hours
- No downtime expected
- Calls continue routing during transfer
Twilio Cost to Hold Call Tracking Numbers
Twilio pricing is very low. Most practices spend:
Monthly Cost (Typical)
- Phone number rental: ~$1.15/month per number
- Call forwarding usage: ~$0.0075 per minute
- SMS (if enabled): ~$0.0075 per message
Typical Dental Practice Cost
1–3 Numbers:
- $3 – $6 per month (holding only)
- $10 – $25 per month (with call traffic)
These costs are billed directly by Twilio.
After Transfer — What You Control
Once numbers are ported, you will control:
- Call forwarding
- Call recording
- IVR menus
- SMS messaging
- Voicemail
- Routing rules
- Call tracking integrations
DentalMarketing.com will no longer manage these settings after transfer.
Important Notes
- Numbers must be transferred before account cancellation
- Once canceled, inactive numbers may be released
- DentalMarketing.com cannot recover numbers after release
- We recommend porting before your final billing date
