How do I resolve authorization errors with scripts in Google Ads?
This article outlines the process for identifying accounts impacted by script authorization errors and resolving the errors in Google Ads.
To identify the impacted accounts:
- Note: This process must be completed daily, as script errors can occur frequently and may impact account performance. Additionally, this should be done after 10am ET to ensure the scripts have already tried to run for most accounts.
-
In the MCC (Manager Account) view, go to Tools & Settings → Scripts → Script History.
-
Add the filter:
-
Script name contains "Budget Pacing Script"
-
-
Change the date range to Today.
-
Adjust the view to display all rows on one page.
-
Press Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (Mac) and search for the term “failed”.
-
Record any rows that contain “failed due to authentication errors”. These are the accounts that need to be reviewed.
- Note: If any account's script says "failed due to system errors", you can simply re-run to resolve the error, but these do not need to be recorded on the tracking sheet.
To resolve the errors:
- Log into the Dental Marketing MCC using flex@donato.ai.
-
Open the Google Ads account that needs to be resolved and go to Tools > Scripts.
-
For each script:
- Copy the script and create a new version with “- NEW” added to the name for easy identification.
- Authorize and run the NEW script.
- Set the correct frequency for the NEW script.
- Verify the NEW script ran successfully.
- Disable the old script.
- Log the update in the tracking sheet, including both the occurrence date and resolution date in MM/DD/YY format for historical record in green text. Also, add the note “Re-created under flex@” in green text in the Notes column.
-
Note: If any account's script says "failed due to system errors", you can simply re-run to resolve the error, but these do not need to be recorded on the tracking sheet.
